Day Seven, Eight, Nine and Whatever

This will probably be my last update until I’m back in the UK and so I thought I’d better tell you what else has happened with the rest of my trip to Singapore.

Things have gone very smoothly on the work front apart from me having a hissy fit when the message came down from the Asian General Manager of ST Bits that me and my colleague were not required to actually to attend the meeting that we had flown a third of the way around the world for. Apparently, the business managers were planning to ambush the Project Manager and had fully expected my findings to be fairly damning of the Project. Nothing could have been further from the case and we reckoned that the Business bods had caught wind of what I was going to say and tried to gag us. I was not going to be put off so easily and ensured that the IS Director and Head of Audit (my boss) would deliver our findings for us. Consequently, I had plenty of time to myself today. I could have gone into the company office and found something or I could have relaxed by the pool with a drink and then done some shopping. Which did I do? Yeh – pool and shopping. Rah!

I’ve just got back from dinner with my boss and he said that I’ve made a very strong impression of the local business managers for calling a spade a fucking shovel and they want me to continue my involvement in Asia. It appears that they are going to want me to make trips to Hong Kong, Sydney, Shanghai, and 3 other unpronounceable places in mainland China. I have asked the IS Director, my boss and the Asian General Manager to decide amongst themselves who is going to do the grovelling to the_mendicant (the Finance Director sent a very courteous letter last time!)

It’s now about 01:30 and I’ve finished my packing and I’m going to post this and then get some sleep before my 06:00 call in the morning for my flight home.
