I haven’t posted anything for a few days so I thought I better update you. I’m now in Singapore and am very glad to back in the Raffles Stamford Hotel. It’s much more comfortable than where I was staying in Hong Kong. In fact I was not particularly impressed with HK. It was much too crowded for me and extremely dirty and, at times, quite threatening. I didn’t think I’d say it, but I prefer Singapore. We completed the work in Hong Kong and the project team has been helped to produce a robust plan that they feel they own. It remains to be seen if they will stick to it; I can see me having to return and do more hand-holding in the near future (bugger).

The flight down to Singapore was very comfortable and I was kept highly entertained watching “Wakin’ up in Reno!” I was expecting to detest the film, but the cast all give good performances and the end result is a very wry look at relationships that may have become like old but comfortable shoes – You’re happy to wear them and are shocked when you realise that there’s a hole letting the water in!
[A note to those of you reading between the lines: The aforementioned comment does not describe how I feel about my relationship with the LOML [livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant :@)]

A quick note about Valentine’s Day. This is the third or fourth year that I have spent 14 February working in another country and I would just like to say that I am fed up with it. I had a horrible time yesterday and felt very, very low being so far away from loved ones. Texts and calls are pale substitutes to being with someone, but any sort of contact is preferable to the isolation that I’ve felt.

I’ve pretty much had the day to myself today and I’ve set about cheering myself with some retail therapy. I’ve decided that I’m going to buy a Sony Clie NR70v tomorrow – I’ve shopped around a bit and I can get one for less than GBP300. I’ve also bought lots of other stuff including a big tin of my latest addiction – Jasmine Tea – mmmmm!

It’s now 22:45 and I’ve got back from dinner at Sammy’s Curry Bar – a cheap and cheerful favourite of the ex-pat community. The service is quite poor and the surroundings are very shabby. However, the food is superb and plentiful – I ate so much that I only had room for a nightcap of one small beer.

Off to bed now – night all xxx
