Well I'm at home now - a day earlier than expected!
This would normally be A blody great thingTM but the circumstances of my early return to the UK are those I would prefer to avoid.

I arrived at my desk in Beauvais in good time for a meeting with Michel, the General Manager to receive a call from a very poorly [livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant. She was having terrble chest pains and shortness of breath! I immediately said that I would do what I could to get back earlier and made sure that someone would look after the boys and the dog (thanks a million to [livejournal.com profile] gardenpixie, [livejournal.com profile] deamongirl and Kanga (Jo)).

I e-mailed my boss, told him the circumstances and suggested that I completed my interviews for Wednesday and drive back during the evening. He would hear nothing of it and insisted that I set off straight away! Top Man!

You can imagine how stressed and worried and was during my return journey, but thankfully it was a smooth one and I arrived home at 17:00.

Mendi was still feelng lousy, but was taking advice and taking things very easy. I looked after her and made her comfort food - posh Macaroni cheese (my special homemade cheeses sauce with apple juice and dijon mustard)

We had a quiet evening with Daemongirl stoppng over whilst Pixie went to see her Fiddler at Folk Club

They've both gone now and I've just written and e-mailed by interim audit report into work. I now have a sunny day ahead of with a few chores, but strict instructions to get out of the house and leave Mendi to rest.

Bye y'all

Given the superb weather Mendi and I decided to have an impromptu BBQ. She was feeling much better (must be the Lindt 70% Chocolate Easter Eggs!) and we shared something interesting which we may or mat not have bought on a recent trip beforehand. I think the numbers peaked at about 15 and they seemd to like the salads I had knocked together earlier in the day. There was:

Potato salad with mint, spring onion and a hint of curry powder
Carrot salad with apple, raisin and cumin
Green salad with lettuce, celery, pepper and cucumber
Rice Salad with toasted cashew nuts, Chinese 5-spice and fresh orange
Fresh corn-on-the-cob
Mergeuz sausages (North African lamb with chili and fennel)
Turkey kebabs
Salmon
Turkey in curry sauce
Spare ribs in a Chinese chili marinade
My own BBQ sauce

And lots and lots of lots of nice wine to drink! (the Tokay Pinot Gris from Alsace was particularly yummy!)

It’s now nearly midnight and I’m ready for zzzzz.. It’s really has been a lovely evening and we’ve made a new friend – Adrianne, who may come to my birthday; renewed a friendship with Moneer and developed a friendship with “the most beautiful girl I’ve seen in the village”!

Everyone seems to have left us about an hour ago and Mendi and I have had a relaxing cuddle together in front of the fire listening to…(see music) The lyrics have been extremely poignant.

Night all
