Hello strangers. I am still alive and have survived my birthday and the party! I'm 42 now, but certainly don't feel as if I'm any sort of Ultimate Answer ;@)

I've had a frantically busy week - working is far more relaxing. Sunday saw my party and there were lots of lovely people there. I had a super time, but won't do a proper write-up until I get to be in the same universe as [profile] the_mendicant's laptop for long enough to edit and post the photos. Memorable moments include getting banned from going near the dishwasher; fire-poi; corsety goodness and snuggles! Somewhere along the line I ended up with 3 beer fridges - Have you ever heard of a bring-a-fridge party? I've got rather attached to one of them and plan to go traveling with it next week - watch out Tony Hawks.

The post party Bank Holiday was especially chilled - we made our usual brunch for the survivors and then I went along to see the Hitchhiker's movie and was pleasantly entertained for a couple of hours.

Tuesday was my birthday and I got a Weird T-Shirt from Mendi and DVDs from the boys. We went to eat in the evening and had a rather jolly time. Unfortunately, Ivan couldn't join us as he was at Movie Club. Alexi and I made up for it by chatting about time travel and all sorts of things. Isn't family Great!

Wednesday saw the return of Mendi's brother and his wife from their travels around the UK and I spent a pleasant evening with the two of them, drinking beer, eating chili and howling with laughter at Spaced. I suppose I should have gone to bed earlier that night because I'd have felt less rough the following day when I was getting all greasy tossing burgers for Northfield Farm at the NEC in Birmingham. I ended up working on the Friday and am now getting a painful reminder of how unfit I've become after sitting at a desk for 6 months - I ache! Please not that all offers of cuddles, sympathy and massages will be gratefully received.

Two days on the grills wouldn't have been too bad if I'd been sensible enough to have a proper night's sleep in between. However, being sensible isn't something I'm renowned for and there was an election going on. Consequently, Thursday evening saw Mendi and I attending the Lib Dems post campaign dinner at a local Chinese Restaurant and then wandering up to the count where we enjoyed watching democracy in action. It was initially, fascinating to watch the count going on, but it soon became very boring and I spent my time watching the TV, chatting up an extremely cure BBC researcher and thinking if there would be anyone awake to text! We gave up and headed to bed at 3am when it became obvious that the Tory candidate would be reelected (he eventually polled 51% and our man came in third).

I got through the day at the NEC by gritting my teeth and carrying on and was so happy to get back home. Pixie and Rachel are spending the weekend with the boys and I and I was so relieved to be ordered to go and soak in a hot bath whilst she cooked me a lovely meal. We relaxed with a bottle of wine and then Pixie told me what she'd got me for my birthday present - a flying lesson! So I'm of flugging in a little over an hour -
