Le weekend

..was very good and lots of fun. It felt like the first weekend in a long time that [profile] the_mendicant, the boys and I were together. As usual we packed lots of things into the weekend, but still made time to relax.

The Eurovison party was a good laugh and Mendi learnt all about Scoobies and how to Scooby whilst I was doing by best as a Russian mafioso to sell spent nuclear fuel rods to the hordes of children that were Brownian motioning around the party. It was a good plan, because we were able to see the children when the torrential downpour found its way into the marquee and blew all the electrics. I suppose that meant there was an interruption in our enjoyment of the event, but I don't think I noticed! I've no idea what the winning song was like as I hardly paid any attention to the contest. Anyway, I think the Who-family won, because we had such a great time.

We were on the go again on Sunday and drove to Mendi's brother's in Bristol for our annual visit to them. (We really should make more of an effort!). Hugs were given, family gossip was updated and prospects for the future compared. We stayed for lunch and then drove home through vile weather listening to superb compilation CDs of My Mate Matt's Whacker Music - rar!

The drive home had one more bit of drama to offer. As we were nearing Melton we saw a lovely white Alsatian-cross dog running along the sign of the road. He was obviously distress, lame and bloodily footsore. We made a number of increasingly desperate, but unsuccessful attempts to get him. In the end we had to give up and resigned ourselves to hoping that he seemed to be heading somewhere with such a purpose that he must know his way home. I hope he's safe this morning.

We were very tired by the time we'd got home and unpacked and only had the energy to be frightened by Dr Who (that was almost a sofa episode!) and have baths before snuggling off to bed.

A wonderful weekend in the company of my family.

Tonight a journey ends...

A journey that started in the Summer of 1977 in a cinema in Buffalo, New York.
A journey that has seen massive changes in the world and myself.
A journey that I'll be sad to see end, but also that I'm so excited to end.

It's Sith time!
