A busy old time...
Sep. 11th, 2005 11:05 pmHere's a surprise; I've been having a busy time of it lately! Alongside the herds of migrating Drama Llamas that characterized last week I've also had a lot of stuff going on at the farm. The main part of my work has been helping my boss get a number of Dexter cattle ready for the Rare Breeds Survival Trust Show and Sale at Melton Mowbray market. Friday saw me at the farm for 05:30 loading up a bull and a heifer to take to the Show part of the event. My boss and I spent most of the day primping and clipping in preparation for the main event. After much waiting, cow shoving and minor dramas the heifer secured a fourth place and the young bull a third. A good result considering that we'd only spent a week preparing the animals whereas most of the other show animals had been in preparation for months. The end of the day saw us taking a further 6 animals to the market and leaving them there overnight. I was shattered when I finally got home at 8pm. However, relaxtion was soon on tap. I was able to get a lovely warm bath, superb food cooked by Mendi and good company from Lol and Jo. Mendi and I retired to bed much later, but thoroughly drunk and trashed :@)
I felt surprisingly chipper at 07:30 when my alarm went and I headed to the farm to check on the livestock before heading across to Melton to sell aforementioned Dexter cattle. Sell them we did, although persuading some of the bloody lumps to get to the sale ring was quite challenge and removing a few hundred kilos of Prime Dexter from your toe is rather difficult. By 3pm our charges were all loaded up and heading across the country with their new owners.
I headed home to relax, bath and rest and get ready for a wonderful visit from my Really Good Chum. We spent a lovely time in each other's company and packed a tremendous ammount into what was only 24 hours together. I even found time to take Sarah to Rutland Water where we looked at marooned churches, talked and watched Maggie try and drown herself by chasing swans into deep water! Maggie found prey too; and presented us with a nice new tennis ball that she "put up" like a true spaniel from some brambles!
I'm off to bed now - I know that I need it
