London Trip - Part 1
Oct. 23rd, 2005 11:21 amI'm writing this at
alexmc's house where
the_mendicant, the boys and I are spending the weekend. The boys are happily watching Firefly whilst Mendi is either fast asleep or languishing with her favorite book. We spent yesterday in town and managed to pack quite a bit in. We didn't get to Alex's until after midday. A late start coupled with a detour to Tesco's in Bar Hill, Cambridge ate up our morning.
A refreshing cup of tea later saw us heading to Camden for a late lunch - Venzuelan Corn Bread stuffed with chicken and avocado - mmmm. I was amazed by Camden. I was last there in about 1987 and boy has it changed. What a bloody warren of fascinating shops. It was incredibly busy and we managed to lose each other a few times - mobiles and pre-arranged rendezvous points are your friends! Ivan fell in love with Cyberdog and now wants to move in. He did particularly well out of the trip and cam away with a Jack Skeleton beanie and his very own pair of New Rocks (Grey spider-web ones) - that's his Christmas Present sorted! We then decaamped to the old County Hall and went for a slow spin on the London Eye. We went as the sun was setting and were treated to some beautiful views over London. As night fell we shussed theough the fallen leaves in Green Pack and headed to Leicester Square for dinner before going into the Odeon and watching Wallace and Gromit - Curse of the Were-Rabbit - Cracking film Gromit! ;@)
The film finished (you must wait until the very end of the credits!) after 22:30 and we emerged into the throng of Leicester Square. Mendi and I felt extremely threatened by the drunken revellry and our parental circuits kicked in straightaway and we headed quickly for the tube. Party order was Mendi in the lead, ALexi and Ivan in the box and me following on behind to scoop up the stagglers. Over-reaction? Perhaps; however, as we got off the tube a drunk lurched in front of us and proceeded to start beating hell out of a rack of tourist information. We didn't relax until we were walking through the quiet streets around Alex's. Sleep came quickly as the adrenelin high wore off.
The lazy morning will continue until we head back into Town to visit the Science Museum. Then it'll be back out to the sleepy rural Rutland. I guess we really are country mice. Or is that when we have the boys in tow?
