Friday was an interesting day in the way that interesting can mean oh so many things. It would take too long to recount in detail now and I've had a too many strong vodkas (to close the weekend) to be utterly coherent, but in summary...

Another sow had a litter of 4 piglets about a month before we were expecting them.
She wasn't as good a mother as the first sow and either her or the ohter two pigs managed to trample two of the piglets leaving gaping gashes in their side.
The boss was away and so I made sure that the piglets were safe from the other pigs and the boss' terrier.
Built an enclosure in the barn for the new arrivals and their mum - managed to drop a five-bar gate on my head - Ow! Bloody! Ow! (it still hurts)
I inspected the damage - ugh!
Called the vet.
Vet arrived and together we stiched the little piglets up good and proper - one piglet has far worse injuries than the other - a 7cm tear in its skin from spine to groin, straight through the skin and fat a exposing the muscle layer. Its been well cleaned and there don't appear to be any internal injuries, but it's a helluva injury for such a little thing - fingers crossed.
Finally got the litter settled and under and infra-red heat lamp.
Other litter is doing fine and the pigelts are more curious, cheeky and energetic each day. The runt is catching up with its siblings; but one of the boys seems to have been knocked on its back leg and is having trouble getting around. Painkiller and multi-vitamins administered and pick-up-and-carry service being offered whenever Mum has the milk bar open and Hoppie is on the ohnter side of the pen.
