whotheheckami: (Love Bunny)
Are there two Valentine's sites on the go. I now about this one, but I'm sure I saw another one (Amercian?). I just thought I'd ask; although I doubt if there's much point me going and looking as the animals at the farm don't have access to t'interweb. After all they do love me ;@)

..or from dawn to dusk and then some.

Mendi and I hosted a dinner party last night. A dinner party for 5 guests and a dinner party that I pretty much worked from dawn to dusk to prepare. It was extremely hard work in quite difficult circumstances. However, it seeemd to go down extremly well. We had a few dramas on the way including the non-delivery of the Tesco food order! I was at the farm doing an hour's work, Mendi was out walking Maggie. Meanwhile, Alexi, Ivan and their friend N, who was on a sleepover, where making lots of noise and just didn't hear the door bell being run and the door being beaten. Needless to say Tesco were a little miffed and I had to dash to the store to collect everything. This meant I was late started and just had to get stuck in to peelng, chopping, marinading, blow-torching, stir-frying, boiling, and baking for the rest of the day. Mendi had liitle chance to stop either and sous-chefed for me and tidied the house.

I think I managed breaks for 20 minutes for lunch, a quick call to Sarah and a shower before everything was completed and the guest arrived. Sharing in our bounty were a bevy of lovely people: the ravishing Princess Jo from the farm; Arty E and N (N's parents) and new friends Kit and [profile] nurse_liz.

To tempt them I prepared:

Assorted chinese hors d'hoevres served on a bed of crispy seaweed *1
Double baked spare ribs *2
Crispy duck with pancakes *1 *3
***
Lemon Chicken coated with sesame seeds
Deep-fried Filet of beef with a hot and sweet dipping sauce
Lamb, cashew and green pepper in a black bean sauce
Egg fried rice
Noodles
***
Lychee custards
Fortune cookies *4
***
Jasmine Tea
Coffee

For the drinkers:
Tesco finest Chardonnay
Tesco fnest Fleurie
Tiger Beer
Sownatsuru Sake

Conversation managed to rage far and wide and was most stimulating. Mendi kept up a family tradition and managed to mention "Vomit!" during the meal. I was a very tired bunny as I trod upstairs to bed after midnight and retired with the poignant thought of when I'd do another dinner party Chez Who.

Notes

1. A bit of a cheat really. I bought these in from Tesco
2. From Northfield. These were cooked for a total of around 4 hours and were just mmmm
3. I nearly lost this. I left it under the grill to crisp whilst we were eating the hors d'hoevres and returned to a kitchen filling with smoke! Cremated duck! However, a bit of scraped revealed very tender duck and meant that finely chopping a mound of cucumber and spring onion wasn't wasted
4. Mine read "Help I am trapped inside a Fortune Cookie Factory! - lame!
