Slash and Burn!
Jul. 21st, 2008 08:59 pmWe've been busy in the jungle garden at Mum Lodge over the past few days. We wanted to expand our vegetable patch but the surrounding undergrowth had run riot and was an inpenetrable wall of 7-foot high nettles, creepers, brambles and other interesting vegetation*. This is where the garden-force of Alex, Sarah and me stepped in. Armed only with thick gloves and long sleeves we attacked the place and have cleared a huge area. An area that has not only given us room to make a lot more vegetable plot, but also room for a fire-pit; and we've only cleared about a third of the overgrown area. I wonder what we can do with the rest of the area once we've cleared it? We also need to decide what to do with the pile of nettles which is the size of two minis! Far too much to take to the tip, too old to compost and too damp to burn.
