The comments to this Post gave me the idea for this silly request.

Imagine that you and the rest of my friends had decided to open a business and you were to join in with us

What business would you like it to be?
What aspects of the business would you look after?
What rooms would we need in the house for the business?
What other rooms and facilites would we need in the house?

It would be a small strategy consultancy, focusing on how businesses can really use technology.

I would be an IT strategist - a "speaker to geeks".

We would telecommute from our own homes all round the country. All we'd need would be DSL and a web cam...

But just think of the library we'd have if we combined them all in one location

Heh. Oh yes. Last time [livejournal.com profile] marypcb and I moved the removal men doubled the cost of the move as a result of the number of books...

LOL - I know what you mean. The movers who brought us to Rutland could not believe how much stuff we had in our old house even though we'd told them the exact cubic meterage beforehand.

a) "Fun" Party Organisers!
b) Decorations, website, flyers
c) If we're doing "mobile" parties, then storage for party supplies, music machines, lighting, decoration plus a nearly industrial kitchen! For hosting parties, then a main room, some smaller rooms/dungeons/whatever!
d) We'd need a food safety/hygene certificate, proper facilities for cleaning pots and pans, storage for kitchenware, storage for food basics, some people to do the cooking/prepare menus etc.

The basic idea is that we can show up somewhere with a van (or truck) full of equipment, mostly prepared food, drinks etc. and give them a party they'll never forget ... from traditional weddings through to goth and fetish extravaganzas. We'd handle getting the licences, signposting, sorting out parking etc. and then we'd throw the most excellent parties ever!

Oh yeh. [livejournal.com profile] catabolism and I had fantasies about this for years. we wanted to open a feminist and comic book shop-cum-coffee-shop, somewhere cool like Vancouver or Seattle - have book readings and DJs at night and community stuff and kbake ales and oh,live the Marge Piercy dream. Of course this was a mid 80s dream. Now it'd mainly have to be a cybercafe, obviously, sell gaming tat not comix, and we all know that independednt bookshops and especially wimmin's ones, can't make money in the face of Borders and Amazon. Sad. Even dreams date.

"Even Dreams Date" - discuss

Thank you - that thought is going to worm its way into my thoughts for the rest of the weekend - I expect I'll post on it at some time

I would be that essential person you get in every company. You know the director that pulls a huge salary doing something immensely important but no one is sure quite what that is. That's a role just made for me, that is.

Wouldn't we all? ;)

Moral issues aside it can't be such a harsh life...?

No I was thinking more along the lines of treating you like a real fat CAT and having your bits lopped off! ;@)

Hmm, that's a bit excessive. Condoms are equally effective.

It doesn't matter what I start off doing, I always end up sorting out the database. So I may as well just start there.

Oh, and answering the telephone in a relentlessly cheerful manner.

Sorry, no cheerful telephones in our business - we'll just growl at people!
