PC Update
Well it wasn't the power supply - It repeated the same problem with
chaoshedgerow's power supply.
It's also not the Hard Disc - still repeats the problem when the HDD is not connected. SO I guess that means its something on the motherboard - hey ho - shopping time!
At least I've managed to get the data I needed off the HDD in question by installing it in another PC. Unfortunately, that only has a single drive bay and so I can't install 2 HDDs in there and so I will have the fun of swapping the HDDs over when I need data from the other drive.

I'd be suspicious of your current drive - the symptoms sound like problems there to me...
Re:
Only one drive bay?
You could invest in one of those hard drive caddies, fits in a single 5.25" slot and allows you to pull out one drive and slot in the second.
Or you could get one of those external drive enclosures (firewire or USB) and put your second disk outside.
E.g. RS components 436-0716 or 436-0722 (though those are horrendously expensive, you can get them for half that price here)
Re: Only one drive bay?
Already got one of them! I bought it as part of an abandoned project to have a machine with a disk for the boys game and and disk for work!
>>you can get them for half that price here
But will they have it in stock today? ;@)
RS components
girlboy? It used to be that me and my mates would drool over the (two years out of date) RS Components catalog that one of us had scrounged from the local electrical repair shop and try to figure out who we knew that had a business we could talk into ordering stuff for us since RS was "trade-only".Of course nowadays anyone with a kitchen table can claim to be a small PC assembler/retailer (but would they still need a VAT number etc.?) and anyway, there's no space in my kitchen for a table! (I can prove that, I have a very small table in there, and there's no room!)
But the RS website is gorgeous, http://rswww.com you should go check it out! :-)
