Everyone got up slowly on Sunday and we were able to give Maggie a lovely long walk on the hill above Penrhynside. She had great fun investigating gorse bushes and chasing rabbits. My Mum took us out for lunch before I drove home to Whissendine. Once again role-playing passed the time and I was able to stop the game on a cliff-hanger as Alexi and Ivan fled through the sewers of a city convinced they were being persued by a demon!
There was just time for me to have a quick rest once I’d got everything unpacked, washing in the machine and boys fed before I headed over to help Mendi. She hadn’t been able to come away with me for the weekend because of work commitments. I’d really missed her at the party and she would have loved to have been there. She’d spent Sunday working on the Northfield Farm Stand at the Burley Horse Trails and had called for a strong back to help her and her colleagues clear up. It was needed as the three guys there were all whinging about their bad backs and it was left to Mendi Jo and myself to do a lot of the heavy lifting.
The work was greasy, dirty and fun, but seemed to take ages and it wasn’t until 8pm that Mendi and I drove away. As we sped up the A1 we saw a beautiful moon-rise to take its place alongside azure Mars. It has been wonderful seeing such a bright Mars all this summer and I shall miss its light as it orbits away from the Earth.
We got home, watched a bit of TV and gratefully slumped into bed. We talked about Pixie and wondered why she hadn’t invited Mendi to join her on Saturday evening with some of the other Unusual Suspects. Instead Mendi spent a lonely evening watching a video :@( We then spent a few minutes comparing our aches and pains before our conversation moved to something extremely serious that is troubling Mendi at the moment. I can’t discuss what it is, but it could have the most profound consequences for Mendi and me. I helped her to talk it through, but I’m not sure if I did any good. It did result in me taking her worries on to me and so as Mendi slipped into slumber I was left with some very harrowing thoughts to keep me awake into the small hours [sighs]
