Bonjour Mes Amis
Apr. 14th, 2003 05:07 pmHere I am at the start of a week in Beauvais (about 80kms North of Paris). I would realy prefer not to be here, because Alexi and Ivan are on holiday from school and I was rather looking forward to spending some time with them and getting them to help me plant vegetables in
gardenpixie's garden. They can't even do that with
deamongirl to help them because I've just realised that the big bag of seeds (lettuce, radish, carrot, leek, onion, beetroot, pumpkin etc etc) was on the back seat of the car!
I had a great time last night with
flickgc. I broke my journey with her, because the non-stop drive from Rutland to Beauvais is a killer. We went out for drinkies to the Ben Crouch's Tavern and met up with a delightful friend of Flick's from uni. Much Pink Drink (Gluttony) was consumed and a good time was had by three. Flick and I rattled back to St. Ockwell courtesy of the Victoria Line which seems to be well prepared to take over Concorde's mantle as the noisiest way to travel in London!
It was a blurry Who who set off to drive to Beauvais this morning. I successfully navigated my way out to the M20 without the aid of directions, map or safety net and pootled on down to the Eurotunnel where I picked up my Club class breakfast - yummy croissant and pastries, had a quick shower and snoozed for 35 minutes as I sped across to France. The A16 to Beauvais was as deserted as ever and I think I averaged about 95mph to arrive here late morning. I was able to adequately test the new CD-player I installed in the car on Saturday and got through about half of the stack of discs I stuffed into my bag during my packing.
These included (don't laugh too loud):
Greatest Hits - Bruce Springstein
Best of MTV Unplugged (Volume 2)
Swing When You're Winning - Robbie Williams
Let Go - Avril Lavigne
Things to do this week:
Do more party planning
Buy beer and wine for the party
Buy wine glasses
Buy tents/sleeping bags if there are any good deals to be had
Carry on reading Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space
Eat good food
Drink even better wine
oh yes.....and do some work
