An ‘X’ cellent Birthday ‘X’ pedition
May. 21st, 2003 10:49 amIt was Ivan’s 10th Birthday on Monday and so Mendi and I arranged a birthday treat for him last Sunday. We began by making 2 carrier bags of popcorn and making sure that there were loads of cans of cold drinks available. The horde of Ivan’s 5 friends arrived after midday and filled the house with deafening noise. It was left to Mendi,
daemongirl and me to horde them into our two cars and we set off for the Cinema in Perterborough where X-Men 2 beckoned. The drive was..interesting! Trying to concentrate on driving whilst 6 ten year old boys attempt to formation dance whilst shouting at full volume was…very interesting (and distressing and dangerous) We got to the cinema and herding them into the cinema via the toilets was soon accomplished. Then the trailers started and the muppets had decided to show the Matrix trailer (wow!) However, we then had to explain that they couldn’t even hope to sneak in and see it because it’s been given a 15 certificate – sad boys: @(
X-Men 2 was appreciated by all and sundry, but I particularly liked Mendi’s comments. She said that she was a bit puzzled by who everyone was because she had not seen the first film, but she decided to just sit there and drool at all the leather-encased bodies on display (I think she went to sleep with Storm/Wolverine/Mendi on her mind)
We then repaired to Pizza Hut where a fine meal was calmly consumed by a well-behaved group of delightful young gentlemen…NOT!!! They were extremely noisy, had a great time, scoffed loads, drank loads, laughed, giggled, played with helium, emptied the ice cream machine - result!!! I drove a somewhat quieter car load home and they all said that they want to do a film and pizza run again!
We’d hope to have a quiet evening to revcover but we got raided by a Pixie, a Rob (Kate had someone to drool over) and Ginger Jen (I had someone to drool over) bearing gifts. We plied them with wine and other substances and were more than happy when they left at 20.00 to allow Mendi and I to collapse in front of the TV for a snuggly couple of hours.
Zzzz
