This evening I have been invited to the premiere of a movie. By my 11-year old son Ivan! He is very interested in making and starring in films and spends a lot of his spare time working on them. Last summer he was involved in making a film called Space Cadets with the Moviemakers group at Stamford Arts Centre. The film was originally premiered last year but, even then a special edition was planned. In the intervening months Ivan has been involved in re-shooting a number of his scenes and his part as Security Captain has grown from 1.5 seconds to a proper role. We'll now get to see him die gruesomely from the effects of explosive decompression!

Space Cadets is being entered into a number of film competitions and Showcase Cinemas will be showing it as part of their Saturday Cinema Club. Hence the premiere this evening at Showcase Cinema in Peterborough. Ivan has been told to dress smartly and cool (New rocks, YPTs, Shades, Long Leather Coat) and will get to walk along his first red carpet! I'll be taking him along with a number of his classmates. You can probably tell that I'm really looking forward to this evening.

He's now working on the pre-production for the Group's Easter project - Gel! A remake of Grease; with the Pink Ladies becoming the Chav Girls! I think Ivan is playing the leader of a gang of Goths.

He's actually quite nervous about the whole thing and the prosepct of seeing the final cut of his death scene is freaking him out. Apparently, there is a close up of teas of blood leaking from his eyes! Which is probably why the film has been given a 12A certificate!

I'll try and write a review and post some links. I wonder how I could arrange to screen it at Eastercon?

Talk to [livejournal.com profile] frandowdsofa or [livejournal.com profile] jamesb, I think this'd be cool! If it weren't for Tobes' parents arriving on our doorstep tomorrow and organising being needed I'd be asking you about going along tonight.

Thanks for that Max. I'll try to speak to Martin Tempest, the Director, power behind Moveimakers and all-round thoroughly nice chap this eveing, but I suspect he'll be a bit with TV, radio and press reporters! However, I suspect that the distributors behind Showcase Cinemas have negotiated exclusive public performance rights for a few months. That's why we don't have a copy of the Director's Cut of our own yet. That, and the fact that they were still editing it last night!

Thanks. Of course I will. It's a shame that the screening has been at such short notice or we could have arranged for more of us to go. I'm sure there will be lots more for us all to see :@)
