I know how to sing happy borthday in welsh, which is something entirley different. I speak a smidge of gaelic, more Norwegian, Danish and sweedish, and can swear fluently in Serbo-croat.
I knew that long before I met sneerpout unfortunately, but perhaps as she must have been living in my home town at the time, she influenced me unknowingly...
Sadly no, my parents are both Welsh and my Dad had english beaten into in when he was 7 and went to school. I grew up on the North Wales coast in the 60s and 70s when Welsh-language education was poorly funded. Consequently, I never learnt the language. However, it is now the best route to a good education and I would have definitely sent my own kids to a Welsh-language school and gone to classes myself.
I did find a course on-line once, but can't seem to find it now.
Yes, Happy Day Haven't noticed much evidence of frivolity round here... but then again I have been sitting in my room or the lab most of the day! I think there is a concept called outside world I'm s'posed to be supervising some 9-11 year old kids doing 'scientific experiments' in National Science Week - any tips, anyone? (for controlling groups of children)
Think I'll be at Eastercon... Might even be doing a little talk Hope evryone who said they were coming is still coming!
Controlling Kids? Hmmm? Whips and chairs come to mind! Seriously, if you can chose the experiments then make them messy and 'orrible and hands on, but make any demonstrations as theatrical and noisy and smelly as possible - my two love that sort of thing.
