"To talk of many things:
Of drunks and drinks and party hats
Of cuddles and of Pimms”
Well you asked for it now here it is – My Fortieth Birthday Party
...Just as the Sons were rising, I met a fair Mendi..
Delivering me my breakfast in bed with lovely cards from Alexi and Ivan and presents too. I got a great Blue Grass CD – O Sister Where Art Thou, books, loads of booze and a beautiful pair of Charles Rennie Macintosh cufflinks. I’d already had my main present some months ago when I bought my Sony Clie in Singapore. I would have loved to have had a long lie-in and a lazy morning, but there was too much to do.
The four of us were soon up and about making lots of preparations for the party. Alexi and Ivan were forcefully herded into the corridor to their bedroom and cruelly forced by their abusive parents to tidy their sty. Their howls proved a satisfying counterpoint to the sounds of vacuuming and blue grass music played loud enough to be heard above the vacuum-cleaner! The day raced by as we transformed the house. At some point in the day we were joined by
daemongirl and her help proved invaluable. People came and went throughout the day, but everything stopped when Mendi came back from Oakham with another present for me – an absolutely beautiful arrangement of 40 red roses! I love getting flowers and had to wipe tears away when I saw how beautiful these were; such a dark red and perfectly matched – I dread to think how much they cost her! I have been told to start saving for hers now and to only expect paper ones for my 50th ;@)
I don’t think we actually stopped getting ready for the party until long after the first guests had started arriving during the afternoon. In fact it is very difficult to actually say when the party started because there was definitely a party atmosphere in the air as soon as
squaddie arrived, soon to be followed by
latexiron and
sneerpout. Sprinkle in
the_a_r_b and
chaoshedgerow installing the sounds and you have, if not the critical mass, but the nucleus of a party. It felt like a good time to crack open the beer coolers and relax for a short while.
Somewhere in the blur of deciding if the party had started I popped into Oakham to collect
tobesv and
hawkida from the station. I had received prior warning from Live Journal to expect less of Tobes, but I was pleasantly surprised by the effect. I got them home and then Tobes’ spikes were subjected to much tactile inspection by the assembled throng. We were soon joined by some lovely bodies people including
azekeil,
kissycat1000 and
florence90. Lots more lovely people came throughout the evening, but I was really surprised when
the_magician arrived – thanks for coming Chris :@)
More to come….
