I drove from home to Oxford in the pool car that has been assigned to me whilst I decide what new car I want to order.

I have been given a 6-month old Peugeot 406 Diesel Estate. I'd test driven it a little while ago and decided to take it because it was so practical despite having very little in the way of performance. What a mistake! It is soooo boring! The governer cuts the engine out far too early and thus makes it impossible to thrash - what is the point of having a car that you can't get comfortably into the red zone?

It was so dull that once I was on the motorway I had to keep banging my head against the window to stay awake. Somehow I don't think I'll be putting one of those on my shortlizzzzzzzt...sorry, I dozed off just thinking about the car.

In complete contrast I had a Land Rover Freelander Diesel to play with for a couple of days this week and most surpisingly, it was a lot of fun. I hated it when I first got in it, but it grew on me as I rattled down country lanes on my way from home to the office in Corby. It's the same size engine in a much, much heavier car but the performance was (and handling) was heaps better - hmmmmm

Cars to test drive in the near future
Kia Sedona MPV with 2.8l
Chrysler Voyager 2.4l
Vauxhall Zafira 2.2 GSi
Notice that they are all big and practical and will fit my zimmer frame with ease!
Also notice that there is not a diesel in sight!!
