We’ve been out test driving cars today!
We’ve tried:
Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 GSi Turbo
Peugeot 806 Exec
Chrysler Grand Voyager 2.5 CRD Limited
Chrysler Voyager 2.4 SE
Quite a contrasting selection of load luggers and the car I expected to like the most was the most disappointing. Probably because the dopey salesman would not let me take his shiny Zafira anywhere where I could give it the sound thrashing it deserves. The engine had loads to give and it would be great fun. Unfortunately, the car was let down by its build quality and uncomfortable front seats. Next please!
On our way to the next appointment we happened upon a Peugeot garage and had a look at the new 806. Their demonstrator was the top-of-the-range version and had more toys in it than Toys-r-us! We were initially told be a grumpy old got of a salesman that they were too busy to give us a test drive. I stomped of to the sales director’s office to ask for brochures and just happened to mention how disappointed I was – cue test drive! Nice car, but sadly out of our price range and I don’t think I could have lived with the boys playing with the electric rear doors!
Finally we took a couple of Chrysler Voyagers out for a spin which ended in one poor salesman meekly suggesting to Mendi that she slow down because she was doing 105 mph on the Leicester by-pass!
Conclusions from the day:
1. Worringly, we are both getting to like common-rail diesels – they actually do work rather well
2. We like toys (but we knew that already *grins )
Next Steps
More test drives
