Well my prediction from Friday was pretty much spot on! I did feel extremely tried on my drove home from Gloucester with BBB and her son Sebby and I was so looking forward to catching up on my sleep. Unfortunately; this was not to be and I had one of the most tiring weekends I’ve had for a long time!

Going home-day
I got home to Whissendine at 8pm and thought I could sneak off for a hot bath and an early night. No chance! I was sent off to collect Pixie and DG and we all spent quite a bit of time chatting and drinking. Pixie and BBB seemed to get on with each other and were soon laughing and giggling away. All too soon, my hope of being in bed by 10pm were dashed and I think I slumped off to bed after midnight!

Shopping and Party-day
I was up and about from fairly early and Pixie and I drove over to Leicester. Fist I had to visit the Dietician at the BUPA hospital. I got quite a pat on the head for losing the weight I’ve got rid of so far. We agreed a strategy for the future and I was in a god mood as I returned to Pixie and we headed off into the suburbs of Leicester to do shopping before heading into the city to get lunch and do some more shopping. Our expedition still wasn’t over because we had to run a couple of errands in Melton Mowbray and do the last bits of shopping. We finally got back to Chez Who to find that [personal profile] squaddie had arrived to stay with us a day early – yay!!!

We only 30 minutes to shower and change before heading over to Barleythorpe for the start of Elrond and Saif’s birthday party. Saif is and old friend of Elrond’s and is also now LLL’s boyfriend. A huge Iraqi feast had been prepared to help the celebrations and I was more than happy to tuck in. There was superb food to eat including stuffed vine leaves, peppers and onions; mutton curry; pilaff rice; humous; broad beam humous; and a mind-blowing dish of an omelette of tiny chunks of spiced lamb, onion and potato – mmmmm!

Later on in the evening the party sort of moved to Pixie’s and Squaddie and I stayed into the early hours (BBB, Mendi and the boys and left earlier), before going home, drinking too much and putting the world to rights! I think my job was to provide a supporting shoulder for Squaddie and I hope I managed to do it OK

Polo-day
Ungh! I did not want to wake up when Mendi woke me at 8am. She did, however, find a very bearable way of compensating me ;@) We had to be up so early because she was working on Northfield Farm’s stand at the Rutland Polo Club match. I went in to help her and Jo with the setting up of their stall. This included, amongst other things, erected a huge tent, moving greasy gas grill and shopping 25kg of onions [sob]! My travails were rewarded with a freshly cooked roll of Gloucester Old Spot bacon and sausage – mmmmm! I left the Polo Ground as competitors and spectators were arriving and rushed home to mobilise the troops and get Squaddie, BBB, Sebby, Alexi, Ivan and Maggie down to the Polo Ground where we all had a great time. We met up with LLL, DG, Pixie and Pixie’s friend Imogen. There was lots of people to see, plenty of stalls to browse and some great food on offer – I even found time to try and watch the polo, but not a lot seemed to be happening ;@) At one point I seemed to be appointed dog monitor and I wrestled with 4 dog leads whilst their owners had a portaloo potty break. The dogs were better behaved than their owners! Tiredness was creeping up on the adults by 15.30 and so we made up the excuse that the boys were tired to head back to Chez Who. I brewed up a few pots of coffee and we sat and drank it on the patio whilst enjoying Mendi’s home-made flapjacks and cheese scones (she is becoming a real Domestic Goddess and looks much better than Nigella - IMHO)

Later on in the afternoon Squaddie managed to extricate himself from the attentions of a DG and join me back at the Polo field to help Mendi and Jo to pack away. They’d done very well and sold over 400 burgers, but more importantly they’d given away a lot of publicity material for the business and done a lot of profile-raising. It was a very greasy Mendi who came home and she dived gratefully into the hot bath I’d run for her.

We were all pretty tired out and so no one could be bothered cooking a meal. Instead we just snacked and later on in the evening Squaddie, Pixie and I walked Maggie and stopped off in Top-Pub (Three Horseshoes) for a beer or two. This seemed such a good idea Squaddie and I decided that it would be silly not to return there after driving Pixie and DG back home. Our good idea lasted until after closing time and persisted for a good couple of hours at Chez Who. Sadly, the idea did not seem so good this morning!

Monday
Work was great because almost no one was about so I was able to get a fair bit of writing up done. There was some progress on the company car front.

Someone had returned his company VW Sharan people carrier and I’ve been offered it. It’s the Carat Version which means lots of toys and leather – mmmmm! The major drawback is that it’s a diesel, but I took it out for a drive and it performs a lot better than the Peugeot 406 Diesel that I’ve been driving. I borrowed it for the evening and Mendi liked it too – so I guess I’ll be asking for it to be assigned to me. This will also work out quite a bit cheaper than ordering a new car – which is nice!

Had a pleasant evening at home. Squaddie and I were detailed to sous-chef for Mendi (it’s like being under the chef! Fnarr fnarr!) whilst the boys played outside and Belinda had a rest. Kanga hopped on over to join us for dinner and brought some nice goodies from her trip to France. I now have a pack of Mergeuz sausages in my freezer and I’m not afraid to use them!

Hopes for a Monday Evening
And here is my agenda for this evening:
Home as early as possible
Food
Hot, hot bath
Beer or two
Read my book
Bed by 10pm
(let’s see how close I get!)

The Actual Monday Evening
And here is my agenda for this evening:
Home as early as possible – Left work at 4pm!
Food – Mendi made a Shepherd’s Pie – mmmmm!
Hot, hot bath – nope – sort of missed that one
Beer or two – Wine or two
Read my book – Only half a chapter of Pratchett’s Lords and Ladies
Bed by 10pm – Only because Mendi got stroppy and declared “lights out” and tucked us all in
